Evaluation and the Health Professions
Evaluation & the Health Professions provides health care researchers and evaluators with state-of-the-art methodological, measurement, and statistical tools for conducting, implementing, and evaluation health care programs and interventions. It is designed to provide a forum for keeping health care professionals abreast of the latest technological advances in evaluation research methods through practitioner friendly teaching articles as well as the results of important program evaluations.
Multidisciplinary Perspective
For over 25 years, Evaluation & the Health Professions has offered a broad, multidisciplinary approach to the conduct of rigorous original research that focuses on the results of evaluation studies. It is increasingly recognized as the premiere methodological resource in the health professions as well as a source for innovative outcome evaluations that potentially affect patients’ quality of life. Articles often influence, not only the design of health care research and evaluations, but also the delivery of health care programs themselves.
Translational Research Focus
Most recently Evaluation & the Health Professions has dedicated itself to issues related to translation research, which is defined as (1) the process of applying discoveries generated during research in the laboratory to the development of trials and studies in human studies and (2) enhancing the adoption of these results into health care practices and products that potentially improve health within the community. The journal considers this arena a natural extension of the evaluation process itself and intends to become a leading outlet for articles addressing important issues in this recently adopted major NIH Roadmap Initiative
Current and Comprehensive
Recent articles discussing topics of vital importance to researchers and evaluators: A multi-method intervention to improve adherence to clinical practice guidelines Evaluating the relevance and external validity of translational research Acupuncture as an expectancy effect Relationship between resident workload and inpatient satisfaction Assessment of physicians’ clinical skills Determining the statistical significance of HRQOL changes in individual patients History of research synthesis Development of the Cochrane centralized register of controlled clinical trials

Evaluation and Program Planning
Purpose and Intent of the Journal
Evaluation and Program Planning is based on the principle that the techniques and methods of evaluation and planning transcend the boundaries of specific fields and that relevant contributions to these areas come from people representing many different positions, intellectual traditions, and interests. In order to further the development of evaluation and planning, we publish articles from the private and public sectors in a wide range of areas: organizational development and behavior, training, planning, human resource development, health and mental, social services, mental retardation, corrections, substance abuse, and education. The primary goals of the journal are to assist evaluators and planners to improve the practice of their professions, to develop their skills and to improve their knowledge base.
Types of Articles Published
We publish articles, "special issues" (usually a section of an issue), and book reviews. Articles are of two types: 1) reports on specific evaluation or planning efforts, and 2) dicussions of issues relevant to the conduct of evaluation and planning.
Reports on individual evaluations should include presentation of the evaluation setting, design, analysis and results. Because of our focus and philosophy, however, we also want a specific section devoted to "lessons learned". This section should contain advice to other evaluators about how you would have acted differently if you could do it all over again. The advice may involve methodology, how the evaluation was implemented or conducted, evaluation utilization tactics, or any other wisdom that you think could benefit your colleagues. More general articles should provide information relevant to the evaluator/planner's work. This might include theories in evaluation, literature reviews, critiques of instruments, or discussions of fiscal, legislative, legal or ethical affecting evaluation or planning.
Special issues are groups of articles which cover a particular topic in depth. They are organized by "special issue editors" who are willing to conceptualize the topic, find contributors, set up a quality control process, and deliver the material. Often several editors share responsibility for these tasks. Suggestions for special issues are encouraged.
Book reviews cover any area of social science or public policy which may interest evaluators and planners. As the special issues, suggestions for books and book reviewers are encouraged.

Journal of Personnel Evaluation in Education
The Journal of Personnel Evaluation in Education publishes research and applied scholarship perspectives on current issues in the evaluation or assessment of teachers, administrators, educational specialist positions, and higher education faculty performance. It provides a forum for prominent professionals to discuss, analyze and debate issues crucial to the understanding, implementation, and advancement of effective personnel evaluation policies, programs, and practices.
Priority consideration is given to manuscripts that advance the
understanding and application of evaluation or assessment to inform teacher,
school leader, and educator quality. Included under the rubric of quality
are issues and concerns related, for example, to teacher and school leader
preparation, licensure/certification, induction, performance appraisal,
professional development, and retention, as well as the exploration and
impact of non-cognitive factors (dispositions, attitudes, beliefs) on the
quality of instruction and learning.
The common theme for any and all such investigations is the clear connection
between the use of evaluation and assessment to understand and improve the
quality of teaching, school leadership, and/or students' educational
experiences.
The Journal of Personnel Evaluation in Education welcomes diverse
professional perspectives and experiences in the areas of evaluation and
assessment in educational contexts. Researchers, policymakers, and
practitioners are encouraged to submit manuscripts addressing current
developments in the theory and application of education-based evaluation and
assessment.
The Journal of Personnel Evaluation in Education is published by Springer Science+Business Media.
